Thinks the Establishment Should Be Kinder to the Imperfect Vessel
Palin has posted a rather long defense of Newt on her Facebook page, accusing the GOP establishment of Alinsky style tactics against Gingrich this week. I admire Sarah, but she’s just wrong here.
Obviously Newt would love for us to think he’s the victim of a big smear campaign courtesy of “the establishment”, but heck I watched the debate and Newt smeared himself. He pandered everywhere, and young people know pandering when they hear it. And the crazy stuff about spending money we don’t have to colonize the moon? Don’t think the words came from the establishment. Nobody put Newt on the couch with Pelosi, he sat his big butt there himself. Nobody forced him to lobby for Fannie and Freddie, he cozied up to the agencies for money on his own volition. Nobody talked him into leaving his two wives – unless perhaps Calista, but we won’t go there. Nobody creates Newt’s personality but Newt. How can you blame the establishment for all of that?
Ron Paul ran a pretty hard hitting ad against Newt. You know, Ron Paul, who always takes orders from the establishment.

Come on Sarah. If you want to come out in support of Newt, by all means, do it, throw all your weight out there, and I’m sure some will follow. Otherwise I might start to think you’re just using Newt for your own purposes.
As much as I respect Sarah, and I do, it won’t matter if she goes all in with Newt or not. I don’t feel pressured to join the Newt bandwagon because Palin is framing this as a grassroots vs. establishment battle to the death, with Newt as the champion of the grassroots that I’m part of. Newt is NOT the right choice to claim the tea party mantle in this race, and it blows my mind that some think he is. It’s a travesty that some think he is, given what he’s been up to over the last decade, and some policy positions he’s taken that should be anathema to tea party voters.
Palin referred to Newt as an “imperfect vessel for Tea Party support”, on her Facebook page, in an effort to drag Newt’s poll numbers back up. Another candidate described himself that way, “an imperfect vessel”, not too long ago. He was running against the ticket of McCain/Palin. Now that Sarah is a campaign surrogate for yet another flawed, imperfect vessel, somebody please bring out some new containers.
